Not 100% sure tho but I won't be surprised if author suddenly decides to reveal that aki's a female after all this time. I mean, if you ask me, the recent chapter indicates that aki could very well be another(sigh) love interest and considering how this is made in korea (very conservative) they probably won't add in a gay character, all the more a love interest.
