Tbh I was quite glad. I mean it’s interesting to read about a character's backstory and their motivations but imma forget them anyways and I understood as much as I needed to for the story to make sense. For me at least it was enough to know that she wants her son on the throne and is plotting something to get the crown prince outta the way for that probably ╮(￣▽￣)╭
No no the story is interesting, it's just that were given scene after scene without giving us a pause or an explanation
For example usually instead of just introducing the imperial family members in a webtoon the authors will also narrate the state of power+conflict within the imperial family. The story here just jumped into showing us the empress dowager scheming but never really properly introduced us to her, what drives her, and all the context in between.
Even if it's a novel (is it?), it's still bad practice to assume the readers have read the novel and it's okay to jump scenes without giving context. It felt like we're missing a few chapters in between.
