Hahaha the WHOLE chapter is need of re-translation....I mean the translations before were bad, but this chapter was probably the worst one done so far. Just terrible. :(((

And they are questions above all, because I only read the bad translation, I made a small personal translation of chapter 26 and 27 before it came out, then I realized that it was wrongly translated when at first it didn´t mention that Soohyun came when Eunsung said his name, and when he was so embarrassed that his face was covered, Eunsung told him that if he felt shy he could turn around so that his face wouldn´t be seen; and then there are the raws, there I have many questions since I don´t understand Korean, and my personal translations are from using google translator.
If I had to ask a question from the raws (What interests me the most), would Eunsung have an interest or crush on Soohyun in the past?
And now that they have started interacting and collaborating in the present, is he interested in maintaining or advancing his current relationship with Soohyun, and protecting him from the rapist teacher and probably Soohyun himself?

Personally, I don´t like rapes in BL, especially if they are poorly written psychologically (Like love=rape, or there are no emotional wounds or trauma on the victim, the rapist not redeems himself and still ends up with the victim, or mental and emotional intelligence of every character is low when it comes to dealing with these issues), but in this work I liked it because it is well written psychologically and there are reasons for everything, and sex isn´t for easy fanservice but as you said, the way for Soohyun and Eunsung on getting to know each other for real (When they made the deal, Eunsung became very nice to Soohyun in sex, focusing on pleasing him, I noticed that).

i retranslate the chapter you talking about, and just like you said the translation are totally off.by asking sohyun to turn around so he would not feel embrassed by seeing his face is totally give different meaning since the current translation give off the feeling that eunsung only care about his pleasure. retranslate though might not very accurate but it give totally different meaning better than official translation i suppose. and when their had sex in the car, eunsung had become more and more sweet toward sohyun. i also dont mind if you want to contacting me using email. it hard to find checkmate fandom. there might be korean one but since i cannot read korean it impossible(⌒▽⌒)

I'll try to answer the questions you have:
"would Eunsung have an interest or crush on Soohyun in the past?" - from the info we have currently is all implied - eunsung remembering soohyun wore glasses, when he tells his friend that he doesn't like reunions because he doesn't recognize any of those "bastards" faces, or remember anyone from school - but he remembered not only how soohyun looked like, but also mentions to his friend that "soohyun hasn't changed - he's still how he was in high school, just in a grown up suit (lit. Translation: whether he wears a high school uniform or a suit, there's no difference." (He says this affectionately btw - and to quote him "soohyun is hard to figure out (complex), and a sensitive guy." ) so the theory in the fandoms he really did pay attention to him, when soohyun wasn't looking at him. Soohyun thinks their relationship was the kind where if eunsung didn't look at him, their eyes would never meet (I.e. he was in a position of power due to his popularity) but he obviously noticed him a lot many times hehehehe.

The theory in the fandom is that soohyun and eunsung are fearing completely different things rn - soohyun thinks the faster he solves this munseop situation, he can start having complete control of eunsung like he wants - he hates any influence on eunsung's life that isn't his - but he's also afraid if he's not useful to eunsung then he'll find someone and replace him (he's also pissed at himself for getting used to eunsung's presence in his life as someone who he takes for granted for always following him) - however eunsung is getting anxious about once the munseop situation, their relationship would end for good. Since the deal in the beginning chapters for this munseop situation. I think he's just insecure because he thinks soohyun really hates him for being who he is (despite his efforts to show him that they're similar) - eunsung actually does realize that he's kinda fighting a losing battle against his own perception. In the chapter 29 they butchered here, he does hold his face and say, "What kind of standards/critreas are you using to say who is what kind of person? How the hell are you looking at me, Soohyun-ah?"
This is where he realizes the chasm between them that soohyun sees....he is very upset afterwards where he realizes no matter what he says, soohyun will always misinterpret it into eunsung looking down at him." Hahaha he says I'll have to read more books to know the right words that soohyun doesn't misunderstand in the future."

I hope the author shows us a flashback of eunsung's thoughts when he saw soohyun after so many years, when he was doing to him, and after he walked out of the hotel room his expression.

He isn't. That's why soohyun couldn't himself understand why he did that to him. He even asks that to eunsung in the car after their deal is made in the earlier chapters, he rationalized that because he thought he learned sex from munseop (since he's just assuming munseop had sex with eunsung - he was his first time hahaha - and so he did the same to him) eunsung doesn't defend his actions or clarify anything back then, but only apologizes to him for ruining his first time haha.
Sex between them has been transactional of information and favour, but this changes through the story - from non-consensual, to eunsung stops when soohyun tells him to (when they make a deal in his room), to sex in the hotel (which soohyun initiates btw) and eunsung doesn't have sex when soohyun falls asleep, and instead cleans him up and put him to bed, to the next time in the car which is also initiated by soohyun. Their reasons differed so much over time...each time they did it, their feelings were changing so rapidly. Especially eunsung. Soohyun can't see the changes completely but he is noticing~

The chapters 26 and 27 were examples of my ability as a translator, which is not very good but even I could see that it is being poorly translated.
And I'm glad I'm not the only one with these theories.
And it frustrates me a lot, but a MUCH that they are doing a bad translation in probably one of the best psychological bl manwha that I have been lucky enough to be born in the same century as the author.
I wish there was a discord to talk about these things or compare translations between fans or something.

There is this scene when he's kissing soohyun's palm so affectionately and then soohyun pulls it back and turns to leave him, leaving him with his hand paused in the air and turning his back on him, but eunsung grabs him and pulls him back to him like he couldn't bear to see him turn his back on him... it's my most favourite scene in the whole manhwa. Even more than the car scenes hahaha the conversations they had in the bathroom were the best~~•

There is a relatively big Korean fandom on twitter so we do have a lot of fun discussing theories for everything from the words, the colour changes in the backgrounds. This manhwa is REALLY so loved... it's really the best. I'm glad you like it so much despite the bad translations. ┗( T﹏T )┛

And I agree with your theory that Eunsung did it to push Soohyun away, but one thing I love about Soohyun is that he is unpredictable and he won't stop until he gets what he wants.

I have already mentioned it before that normally I don´t like a rape in BL because they oversimplify it to love=rape, and there is no mental damage or consequences neither in the victim or rapist, but here it is different, there is a reason and consequences for everything, and accusing the work of "love=rape" mean that you don´t understand the author's message at all (In my opinion).

In the Korean fandom, we actually talked about this: soohyun at the start said how he knew exactly who eunsung is (always misinterpreting his words of worry as him looking down on him) but in the recent chapter he said that eunsung is like a problem book that he can't seem to get even one answer right - and he can't do it on his own. He can't understand him at all, and realizes that only eunsung himself can tell him about who he is - and he's someone who is very patient teacher and will tell him who he is step by step.
Eunsung on the other hand though he knows who soohyun is, but he knows him only surface-level deep, and wishes to know him from the ground-up, like to his core or something. Soohyun surprises eunsung a lot, like he ALWAYS surpasses his expectations, and also he is pleasantly surprised to find how perfectly soohyun fits into his life - kind of. But the parts of him that intrigued him before, which he found fun before, now make him worry, since his feelings have deepened considerably.
Hopefully they'll communicate in the future chapters....eunsung-ah, keep fighting! The road is long, but soohyun will realize soon hopefully. Eunsung just needs to be really straightforward (which has started being already)
