If you read carefully, the fairy lady did mentioned that our maid already gone home.
So that was the maid who have gone home first to get changed and preparing to greet the family back from party.
But somehow there's bad omen (lady's tea cup fell down at the same time as lady getting strike).
If you tell me which part you are confused, I maybe can help explain as best I can. My English not very good though...
