I totally get where you're coming from but I feel that the pace of the romance makes a lot of sense. Someone she trusted for years (the step mom) not only killed her father but her as well. I can't imagine how deeply that would traumatize and constantly be on someone's mind. If a parent figure could do something like that to her then I feel like she's more than willing to think her husband could hurt her the same way.

Don’t get me wrong I like the Mc but am I the only one who think that she is a little annoying? I understand she as trauma and everything but the story is so slow. The duke show many sign and said many thing for her to understand that she can lean on him a little bit it won’t bother him. Yet she still keep up by not really moving that forward with her relationship with the duke. Or even in her life. Now don’t get me wrong I know that in real life those things take time and all that. But for a story romance like this it’s to slow like she’s moving like a turtle on this road her faith is. The story is good but it’s going so slow the mc at this point is kinda just getting hypocritical. I feel like I understand they wanna make her relationship with her and the duke go slow but they’re doing it the wrong way so it’s just like a slow messy mess. A part if me wanna drop it because it’s getting nowhere but I also wanna continue hoping I’ll get soon the same love for the story that I ad when I started it.
