I get the feeling that he's either suuuuper in denial or this was all some grand manipulation scheme. It seems like he was in love with MC when they were kids (and probably still is).
If he's in denial he became the cop so he could punish 'himself'.
If it's manipulation, I think r somehow found out MC is gay, joined the police in the hopes of bumping into him, and now made that bet to get together with MC.
It just doesn't make sense in that world and with him being a cop for him to have jumped straight to sex and been so cool with it. And now this bet? It's supposed to be illegal, that's entrapment.
I will say I agree but also these tropes generally repeat themselves in a lot of manga and manhwa romances. But mainly the gay ones. Also if you read past this, I am very sensitive and will cry so please don't be mean.
When it comes to the "in denial" plot, it's an experience lots of queer people go through but can feel like a generalization of the queer experience. Like a lot of us don't have to care enough to be in denial. Though in the context of yaoi it can be more "forbidden love" kinda denial. Though in the context of this one, being gay is literally illegal so the "in denial" makes sense but yk. But also you can see the "in denial" shit with shojo romances with the cold stoic and girl with personality ships.
The he "manipulation" plot kinda makes queer people seem predatory or even like liars. Also fr almost every time there are two love interests there's never even a competition or the other love interests is literally the devil. I remember that scene with his friend in the bath tub. But also I watch Ouran Highschool Host Club so...def some manipulation there.
Then there's a minute third trope that's taking place a "turning gay" that's more evident in the "male chauvinist has gay sex once and then can never get it up with woman" trope but is low-key happening here where he wants the MC to make him fall in love with the MC. Which is problematic for many reasons...
That's enough man-splaining for me (legit sorry if it came of as that I'm low-key wondering if anyone reads yaoi like this or if I'm slowly losing my mind). No hate, I literally eat this shit up, no cap. Also swear I do other things than read yaoi, manga, and manhwa... I should go touch grass or just become grass. (((;ꏿ_ꏿ;)))
Hiya! You're amazing!
My comment probably came across as callous, and that's because I was feeling like "ugh not again" when I wrote it. I think the blonde guy is trash, but yes these tropey stories are just really addictive.
But then there's stories like My Sunny Days which are like a balm that just give you the warm fuzzies.
But seriously, I'm not a gay man so I can't speak as one, but I really can't believe how the relationships and personalities are so often portrayed. As you said, there's almost always predatory behaviors portrayed as the norm which is pretty concerning. I get that it's fiction, but if one continually sees the same messages being repeated and being encouraged it could be internalized.
Encourage the warm fuzzies! ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~
Nah, I wasn't mad or anything, I thought your comment was legit funny. I just felt like info dumping tbh, I've been reading (mainly audio books because I can't really sit down to read an actual book) a lot just general queer theory and feminist thought for a class and it has been plaguing my mind in the best way possible. Trust me the people around me are slowly getting tired of me bringing up "bell hooks" every day :,-) she's weirdly gender affirming and pretty inclusive.
I'll definitely take you up on the reading suggestion. Also I finished dreadful night so far, just have to say problematic shit is so fun and ew blood

Bro's really got some gay amnesia. Whenever he does something gay he immediately forgets it.
