I think that he already knows what’s going to happened and that’s why he asked « the lover stealing from you » question, he knows uke is a nice guy and just want to see if uke will eventually deemed him (seme) worthy of relying on, like he would with his lover.

It's not really the best way like you said. And seme makes uke only miserable by letting him chose to weather steal the document or not. Seme is sure he'll (uke) do it. But I think after treating uke so 'nicely', uke is more miserable than in the past
Of course it’s always easier to be mean toward someone who treat you badly, and I do hope seme will realize soon enough that despite what it looks like the uke from the previous life is different that this one
