I'm getting the feeling it's more than just a misunderstanding: the dead bro/cousin/whatever the heck he was/... that guy deliberately kissed the ML in front of the mc and made the mc misunderstand (knowing the ML probably wouldn't push him away out of pity bc this guy had a terminal disease....)
Yes and overthinking sometimes caused misunderstanding
This is why communication is the best key! If you don't communicate with each other how are you both gonna know about each other's opinion and reason
