It is explained in the novel. Remember how the ML( SongBaiLo)’s father (LuoQinghe) was forced to bond with an omega which caused his beta partner (SongBaiLo’s mother) to disappear ? That omega already had a son (it is not said who is the other parent) same age as SongBaiLo and omega too. They grew up like stepbrothers. But LuoQinghe and the omega he marked couldn’t have a child together. And the families wanted an heir. So they tought of marrying the ML (SongBaiLo) with his omega stepbtother. The ML refused but they drugged him and took his sperm and inseminate the stepbrother. The omega stepbrother died giving birth to Momo. The ML was kinda traumatised because it remembered him the past with the MC (NingYu). So he was kinda indifferent toward Momo who was raised by his father and his omega. But the omega was depressed cause Momo’s mother was his own son and he died. So he was not a very good parent for Momo. SongBaiLo finally was upset to see the heir he was forced to conceive to be wasted and decided to take Momo and raise him.
So SongBaiLo is Momo’s father but Momo’s biological is dead. That’s why Momo call NingYu "mother".
In the novel, little by little SongBaiLo start to be a good father for Momo and learn how to love him. In the end he is a very good father for both Momo and Meimei (the child NingYu is pregnant with in the present).
And for NingYu and SongBaiLo’s first child, unfortunarely he was stillborn. NingYu’s mother lied to him to force him in the marriage. After SongBaiLo found NingYu and just before they really reconcile, they have a ceremony with the taoist priest for their dead first child to be reborn in a happy life.
