I can sorta see why you would, but tbh, I never imagined him gruff bc idt it was ever said he had military/work exp. I do remember him being described as smth along the lines of "a predator with claws," but they were obviously being metaphorical there.
is the old guy duke diarca? bc if so, i imagined him to look a bit gruff (think pierro from genshin impact)
