Why the art?

Insertbratwurst May 18, 2024 5:24 pm

I feel like the characters are aging backwards… that’s what the art tells me. Technically Misaki was 18 at the start of the series. He was being tutored for his college entrance exams. Currently he is a college graduate. Including the months before/after college we can assume around 4 years have passed. Usagi was in the same class as Takahiro, therefore they are the same age and should have the same age gap with Misaki. Meaning Usagi is 10 years older than Misaki. (Other various references throughout series claim 10 year gap.) So… if we assume Usagi was 28 at the start of the series, and 4 years have passed, then he is currently 32… or a bit older? But the art does not reflect that at all. Square chin semes aside, I like the old art better- minus the lack of proportions.

It's just the authors new art style it seems. She also changed the art for sekaiichi. I think she doesn't like her own art style now lol

I miss the old artbut not the art at the very beginning, the author changed their style a bit half way though and I liked it cuz they had better proportions and it looked a lot more neat, but the new changes recently are too much for me, I like seeing the art improve, but I don't like it when characters faces fundamentally change

The series is literally running for over 15 years now, wdym about art style change

Yeah, it’s been that way for a while… saying it’s new- I mean it is only during the last few chapters- but how many real-world years did that take? Still, proportionately you’re absolutely right, the author updated her art style recently. It’s just that I don’t like it. I prefer the old style.
I spent what? Around 20 years appreciating this story even with the cannon “square chin = seme” thing. I lived through the crazy massive hands and everything else. I get that author’s art has improved in a lot of ways, I just don’t like how she’s aged them backwards. If square chins were the only way an author could show age through art, every series would be full of square chins. Usagi does not look 32 and Misaki looks younger than when the series began.
And yes, I hate it in sekaiichi too. That one updated recently didn’t it? 4 more days= 4more real-world years prob. Lol.

Has it only been 15 years? Could have sworn it was closer to 20… well whichever it’s been a damn long time.

I didn't wanna say anything wrong, I've known the series since 15 years now but I googled, it's been 22 years 0_0

Wow, this series doesn’t have enough chapters to warrant that timeline. Yet here I am still reading. Lol.

That's understandable! I do admit Takano in sekaiichi looks exactly the same as he did in high school which feels a bit weird, considering the whole premise is about meeting up after a decade so it felt better when he looked a little more different

I think it's on a schedule in the Emerald magazine which only gets published 3 times a year so that explains the lack of chapters + their other work SiH so we only get a few chapters per year unlike Manhwa which follow a 7-10 day schedule until a season is finished.

yeah and I think that contributes to why webtoons are so popular these days...they get updated way more often than manga.
