I don’t think it was ever mentioned if i remember that he was “dumb” like definitely unmotivated and hates studying yes but with his parent’s genes, i mean look at his sister; girl is a genius. i think he always had the capacity to learn, he just didn’t want to. So i think it makes sense that he passed it when he put effort into studying. Like boy isn’t dumb he is just passionately unmotivated
