I agree, actually I believe that Charlotte is actually the lady from the diary and her mansion itself is her curse/nightmare (as Eric/ her brother said). The painter also recognized her and told her to move on, so there is little to no doubt. I'm not sure about the child-dog role and I'm not sure if the game ever existed at all tho. My theory for now is that Charlotte is actually the lady cursed to relive her nightmares for century in a sort of loop.

Tbh i think Charlotte is has secret story about that mansion. And that guy is her obsessed brother. Ouh and i think dietrich will come back impossible for ml die easily. If they die it mean the story going to end ╮(￣▽￣)╭
