He was, that's true. But ask yourself this, would it have hurt more to date a totally cruel prick or a nice guy who suddenly left the country forever and left you behind? Senpai was trying to protect them both from heartache in the only way he knew. It was Kouhei's love and tenacity that showed Senpai other options.
When I was young, I treated my lovers like this. I admit now that it was abusive, pure and simple. I truly didn't know how to be close with people or love them. It took my husband's patience, love and understanding to teach me how to treat the people I care about correctly. We've been together 22 years and thanks to him I am no longer abusive and I am a much happier person. So, I always love stories about redemption like this one.
