From the first life, Alfonso actually loved Charlotte and had asked Adeline for help with the ring. Turns out the ring is missing/gone and that greasy guy intentionally hid it so he could have power over the Eduard family.
So Alfonso want to make a replica of the ring and pass it off as the real thing.
In the first life, Charlotte first started to open up to Alfonso after he defended her at her "fake" friend party. Literally defended her honor
And Alfonso start to fall in love after seeing glimpses of her real self.
