Matthias will blackmail Layla to be his mistress in exchange of something. And of course as a mistress, Layla need to offer her body and there part of the novel that he literally got rough and become more possessive to her (and they freaking do it in a cold floor :// Layla HATED it so much). There's alot more, Idk how to tell it but to put it simple. The bird that he was taking care of, kinda foreshadowing what Layla situation in the further chapters after blackmailing her . Ironically Matthias didn't really have this character development (on my POV) and Layla seriously just develop a Stockholm syndrome ╥﹏╥
