I wouldn't say he hates kids. He just hates kids that aren't blood related, which is basically all of them now.
Even if he did love her at first, by the end it's obvious their relationship was completely over... Love or no love, they were completely dysfunctional and non viable as a married couple. They should've divorced a long time ago... especially after he abandoned the kids the first time... not to speak after their own biological daughter died.
