Yo I agree with all of you on the mother, but I will speculate that the curse she got wasn't only about her dying. It was prolly something like the one you love will suffer ect. So as stupid sh*tty momma she was, she choose to abandon daddy and make the kid suffer or something. Like either way the author is just horrible narrow minded person or they just didn't think this through. It's my speculation only don't take it as a spoiler or anything I don't know. I hate these parents so bad.
