I think the dog paw is from when he was living alone in the wild, it was shown when mori was drawing his definition of mom for rider. The human hands are also the orphanage caretakers.

I really want Mori to be with his best Mum's
Mira and Rider but there are human hands and a dog paw on the cover which makes me think he's still got another group to meet in the human settlement.
