I know this is an old comment, but it was because she was the last kings daughter so it would have further legitimized his claim to the throne. Like, they said power and strength was generally how it was decided but by marrying Agnes he also would have gained legitimacy in the eyes of foreign countries too, as well as other factions within their own country who wanted a less “survival of the fittest” style of governance that their father was originally working on
