Honestly, his backstory was a little to be expected, tragic and upsetting. What doesn’t sit right with me is the fact that a lot of people are saying “the author is trying to make us feel guilty so we stop hating on jaekyung” and I don’t necessarily think thats true. the author is just showing us what happened during his childhood that molds him into the character he is today. OBVIOUSLY there’s still a lot of questions that I want answers to. Why does Jaekyung act the way he acts? Why does being a boxer and remaining on TOP mean so much to him? Remember when he would tell Dan “resting is for losers, I dont need rest, I need to stay on top” well, where did that mindset come from? Cause based on this chapter, it seems like his dad didnt give a crap on what Jaekyung did, so it definitely wasn’t him that would push him to his limits. Why does it mean so much to him?
Another important thing to note: Im thinking that maybe Jaekyung got his very shitty attitude from his father, he’s young, a child and children are like sponges, they absorb everything that happens around them and what they see. Since his mother wasn’t around and he only had his dad as a parental figure, he saw and absorbed nothing but negativity and his shitty attitude, but that also doesn’t make much sense since he also had the coach and the granny that seemed to show tenderness towards him. Overall, I never hated jaekyung and just wanted to understand him, there’s still a lot of questions that remain and obviously this doesn’t excuse all the suffering that he caused on Dan and others!!, but even so, Jaekyung deserves a little sympathy as well
