genuine question

as a scanlator, they do not receive any compensation for their scanlations, but aggregator sites (like mangago) do through ad revenue. this is a common issue within the scanlation community and this person is far from being the only one who thinks this way. I hope this clears it up a little

Hey so I’m a bit confused and wondering if you can clear up why scanlators prefer bato when they are also making money off of ad revenue.

honestly, my guess is bc they are uninformed?? bato used to be like dex, so no ads and no money to be made and against sites like mgg. then the founder sold the site to an aggregator (great move dude), they kept the famous domain and put a trillion ads on it, so bato now is just like mgg lmao

why do they keep using it? honestly, my best guess is because they don't KNOW the site was bought? most ppl use adblock, even then though, bato tells you it has ads but whatever, bato is just as bad as mgg now, so it makes no difference. dex is i think the only choice that's actually ad free and doesn't make (officially) tons of money.

from what I understand bato used to be a scanlators hub as well before it got shut down and sold to different owners some years back and it became what it is today. I'm guessing scanlators still like using it, or they have more control over their uploads there? I'm not actually completely sure

Has to be because mgg has no ads when you're signed in. Meanwhile bato is a crazy bombardment whether signed in or not. The pop-ups are incessant and the static ads are unpleasantly sexual. I literally cannot read bato in public even if it's PG13 content because there's hentai on the ads. I'll never understand why uploaders choose bato over mgg.
