Although I didn't see if the mother told the father that she was actually harassed but I think it was implied that the father knew and was still willing to take her back. She was pushing him away but she eventually gave in, he wanted to spend time with her for the rest of his life. He even said he still lives in the apartment they both rented before they seperated
