Yeah, and more than that: isn't the possibility of an entity like him existing, in itself, already TOO terrifying? (He's not a "bearable" supernatural like for example, a vampire, that you at least know you can kill with a stake to the heart, if you try hard enough...). Might as well take ANY excuse to think that something like "what he is" doesn't exist in the universe
It's definitely a mix of both. Honestly, I would be delusional myself if this were me. I wouldn't want to believe in it. I don't want to believe that everything is happy go lucky.
Everyone saying he’s gaslighting her, but honestly, I think she’s gaslighting herself too. Maybe she knows he’s lying, but instead of the life she had before, she’s decided to live like this with him. She knows she can’t escape him. Might as well play along, right?
