When they foreshadowed it it was pretty obvious with how they mentioned his "mute and withrawn" phrase, that it was him. Around 10 chapters before the last one.
But it was nice to feel validated and it was shown clearly that it was him.

I gasped when I saw it was diez. Also I’m so sad when I saw this was discontinued according tot the comments. Please bring this back it’s toooo good
