I had this theory a couple of chapters after we found out his memory being wiped. So it probably was already said.
I don't think Ian grew over night. Especially if this is a science story and not a fantasy story. That would require a ridiculous amount of calories to achieve.
I think the scientists messed with the MLs brain so much that he just forgot his whole existence.
Like Ian being in his apartment as a kid was a different timeframe of adult IAN being in his apartment.
Especially just with them going into ML's apartment unbothered, they could have easily dropped grown up Ian in there. (Probably with brainwashed ML with him)
