Not gonna lie I kind of wanted some grand sympathy more widely, and most importantly a revenge of sort. But I know that wouldn’t result the best-as the story suggests, we shall forgive and forget…but sht I was hurt so bad and invested so much over every panel an his suffering it just feels unjustified to some extent
You’re wrong in a way. I agree that it shouldn’t have been revenge because it would end up bad. There was already revenge in a story and that was his death. But the story doesnt suggest forgive and forget. It was more resentful to a realization.
Remember, the previous emperor and the emperor now were in the same reincarnated body, but both have different consciousness. Our MC never forgot but did try to forgive for the sake of karma. But after realizing that emperor wasnt the same man because they hold different consciousness, his resentment came to an end as it was not the old emperor he once knew.
This story is a lot complicated but simple to understand so I understand why you feel that way.
But still you’re wrong in a way (my actual reply that relates to this). The story didn’t suggest forgive and forget, it suggested an escape. Sehyun who was taken advantage of didn’t have a choice but to comply with mathew (or wtv his name was). He had a soft spot that left when he created his tragedy.
He couldnt leave, but dreamed of eacaping, he couldnt forget, but wished to move on. The ending shows how little he starts to improve to portray that tragedy. But even if it shows little, it means a lot for a Sehyun who just escaped to put an end of his tragedy, start a new beginning with an undefined slow progress.
Healing always takes time, years to finally come to a mental pause but not a complete end. Many truamas never leave or is pretty to deal with which makes it a realistic ending with how you feel that it’s unjustified.
Unjustified just feels wrong but its better than returning to an open wound which Sehyun wants to heal from. His escape was the unsatisfactory moment you feel for a realistic ending.
Sehyun was separated since it wasn’t entirely the legit moment. I’m sure he took a family photo but remember that one of the girls didn’t like him and so he wouldn’t feel qualified to have a family picture. He would seem like a mole in hinding of shitty past. He just holds a lot of prejudice against himself therefore the ending still shows that of him.

I don’t know if it is just me. But I feel rather underwhelmed in the end. The readers are to truly witness his suffering whilst the others were just to shallowly get to know it…I just want to get how strong my boy was to others. It is just unfair and ridiculous
