I truly started a war lol. Don't get why people can't just understand that fiction reflects reality, and works created by people tend to reflect the personal beliefs of the person writing it. If the only reason to include a darker-skinned character is to make them an easy villain cuz you can label them an outsider/barbarian, then clearly there is a political slant to it, even if it's unintentional. Ignorance is alive and well, and acknowledging that harmful stereotypes exist is the only way people can learn and grow. Media influences the world, and if the manhwas Korean people always see have darker people as barbarians/sex symbols, it will continue to perpetuate these bad ideas. Acting like fiction doesn't influence the world is a very silly stance when that is sometimes the only way people can see different perspectives from their own, especially when they are younger. When those fictions all share common stereotypes, people are gonna notice; it's just up to the person to decide whether that stereotype is bad, and people can only do that if they are taught to recognize it; otherwise, it leads to generalizations like people in Korea make about darker-skinned people. I mean, just look at their beauty standards, where they literally do skin bleaching because being darker is seen as unattractive.
