Personally I didn’t like this at all. Though I think the premise is a very interesting, the actual execution of the plot and writing was unnecessarily complex to the point that it made it hard to read. It felt like in an effort to write a compelling story, the author just ended up writing a manga that comes across as “fake deep” and incomprehensible. The art is nice yes, but that doesn’t make up for how awfully written this story was. I was so shocked to see how high the rating was because I absolutely hated this. Thinking about it now still makes me mad. If I could give it 0 stars I would.

To add on: I have a personal hobby of reading messy ass mangas; sometimes the worse the plot, the more I like it. But this was just straight unreadable because it felt so “fake deep”. It’s like if I made my cringe middle school ocs into a yaoi but with good art. But, “good art does not a good manga make”.

I agree. While I think the author might be doing their best at attempting to visualize trauma and phychology issue stemmed from whatever traumatic experience they had, the way it was portrayed was so messy as a reader it's hard to understand. It feels everything happening all at once with heavy metaphor. I really don't like this one at all. I tried.

Oh, that's so interesting that it can be seen that way! For me it was easy to understand and not too complex at all, with good pacing and a balance between capturing inner torment, reveals and development... Some parts of the manga were very disturbing and unsettling... After the first volume I was afraid of what would happen. It was even more disturbing to see how one person's psychological wounds hurt others.

The second volume gave a clear explanation. The ending was a bit anticlimactic for me because it was too predictable, but at the same time it left me with a warm feeling. There was something healing about it.

As someone who survived a traumatic event and had their past and self-blame haunting them, I found the characters' feelings very realistic. Kei being trapped in unhealthy thought loops felt painfully real. The manga moved me and reached something very deep inside. It also gave me strength to face my own demons.

I was amazed that great writing met astonishing art. Now I can see that this piece is not for everyone. Reading about your impression of it made me wonder: maybe if I didn’t have knowledge of certain therapeutic modalities or experience with similar traumas, I would see it the way you do?

I don't think its correct to assume that my interpretation is due to lack of similar traumas; I too have had very similar struggles and dealt with a lot of self blame and personal issues. I have no issue with the psychology themes. My main issue with this manga is the writing, and I don't think psychological experiences come into play with that.

Because this story is presented in the form of a comic, it becomes tricky to show what's going on as you can't use as many words as a book. There is nothing wrong with using literary tools like metaphors or what not but excessive use just feels heavy handed. Excessive use of metaphors make it hard to differentiate what is a metaphor and what is real life (like the use of supernatural elements like shinigami vs survivor's guilt, how to explain certain deaths, never explicitly confirming Azuma's role, etc.). The plot relies on hazy abstract storytelling but lets it be abstract to the point that it becomes narratively disjointed. It feels like the author just veils lack of plot development under senseless angst, hence why I said it comes across like a cringe middle school OC. The pacing itself is also poorly done, making just reading it hard. The plot becomes extremely confusing because of how the story is told.

This is really just my opinion though; glad you enjoyed it at least.

Here’s the thing, you are reading this online. It was harder for you to focus and concentrate because the lettering is small and the pages seemed endless/unorganized. Which of course is not the fault of the author but of the uploader…This is a brilliant and extremely well written story, beautiful and poetic. The fact that you would call this something of comparison to “middle school” is hilarious.. I think you aren’t a very bright minded person and I hope you keep reading the garbage you continue to rot your mind with! Next time pay the fee and buy the book if you’re such an expert on reading.

Your response does an excellent job of not responding to any of my points and dismissing them as a result of the format of which I am reading rather than writing and narrative flaws. What does lack of plot development, overuse of metaphors and confusing abstract storytelling have anything to do with reading this online? Don’t blame the uploader for providing their hard work to all of us for free when sometimes this is the only way people can access stories like this. And it’s quite rude of you to just insult me for being “not bright minded” when all I did was express my opinion of why I didn’t like this story; and mind you, I gave a thorough explanation and even stated that I liked the premise, just not the execution. Nowhere did I ever say I was an expert at reading. There is no need to devolve into rudeness just because you don’t agree with me. I am glad you enjoyed it nonetheless.

Your only explanation about why you “completely didn’t like it” was because it was supposedly too complex and to me that’s utter bullshit lmao it just means you have a lot of big words yourself to say. If you couldn’t understand the metaphors, the overall plot, the message, the meaning then yes you are not that bright..discrediting someone’s work that they spend painstakingly long on to create only to be shitted on is the true rudeness.

An opinion that takes 5 seconds to create rather than the author who could’ve taken months to a year to create this. It’s one thing to not like it it’s another to take the time out of your life to say it’s interesting but bad and doesn’t makes sense right right

Fuck u think a review is? This person is giving their review on how they digested it and tough shit but that’s what happens when people consume things? Like, a damn Netflix show takes 2 years to film and someone will binge it in a night and still not like it.

It’s fine to not like it and express your dislike to it to others who are also giving their opinions - both like and dislike.

People are going to critique even the most in depth stories or in-ur-face stories and some of em are going to be ur favorite, but that doesn’t give u the right to essentially call em slow cuz they don’t get it.

Firstly: Don't diminish my explanation to the work being "too complex" when that simply isn't what I said at all. I have NO problem with complexity, metaphors or the plot, rather my issue is with the author's HANDLING of complexity, how they USE the metaphors, or HOW the plot is ultimately conveyed, something that I've said multiple times. I cite specific parts from the manga just to name examples.

Where in my comment did I ever discredit the author's work? Criticism does NOT equivocate ignoring the work an author has done and since you can't seem to tell the difference I guess I'll explain it. Critiques are the construction for judgement about the negative or positive qualities of something. I provided specific, actionable feedback and just because it was negative does not make it "rude". If I had said "this work is just shit", then that's a different story. But I DIDN'T. And just because somebody spent a long time working on a project does not mean it is immune to criticism. For example, the Emoji Movie which is famously bad- Sony spent millions of dollars developing the movie and artists no doubt worked tirelessly to make the finished product. But does that make it immune to criticism? This a rhetorical question, but based on your responses so far, I'll give you an answer: NO, it is not immune to criticism.

Now lets talk about me being "not bright". You're framing my understanding (or lack thereof) as a result of my intelligence. A failure to understand something doesn't automatically make it MY fault, especially since I gave a VERY thorough explanation as to why I felt the way I did. Seriously, the fact that you really can't seem to understand the fact that people can have differing opinions or interpretations and immediately jump to attacking me is very telling about YOUR character. And I would argue you are doing the very thing you are accusing me of doing: just blindly being rude just because you don't agree with me.

I'm not the only one who feels the way I do; I've seen a few reddit posts asking for explanations on the story and in fact, if you look at good reads, there are multiple reviews with similar views as mine. And just like there are people who agree with me, there are also reviews are similar to your view as well. That is just the nature of having an opinion, because we all have different perspectives that influence our opinions. Earlier in the comment thread another user disagreed with my review but they didn't jump straight to attacking me; rather I appreciate their thought-out response and opinion on the work, as even though we have differing views, we can still respect each other's interpretations and feelings. They also explained WHY they enjoyed this work, while I find it funny that you really haven't mentioned why you yourself are batting for it so hard to the point that you are just childishly throwing insults at me.

Next time you want to disagree with somebody and not look foolish, I'd suggest for you to take a step and re-evaluate the point you're trying to make and present it in a civil way.
