I want to give the both of them hugs… I think the reason why this story hit me hard in the heart is how it tackled flaws. Each character had them regardless of what their background was, and yet those flaws didn’t solely define them. It made me realize that flaws within us will always exist, but it doesn’t mean it will cause us to be unworthy to be seen and loved—instead, it’s what causes us to be even more deserving of it.
I deeply appreciate the open ending of this story. Usually, these type of endings leave me frustrated and confused, but right now, I’m happy because I’m free to interpret it the way I want to. The love between Ishida and Onishi is beautiful as is in a platonic light, especially with how their friendship is founded by how they’re each other’s strength. I like to believe, however, that over time, they become lovers as well. Maybe they even adopted a child years later . It’s not that far fetch given the textless panels, and out of all the probabilities, this one is my favorite.
I hope that in their fictional world, all the characters have finally found happiness in some way! Happy I read this today. I feel like I can breathe a little clearer :))
