Agreed, maybe it’s not so weird sounding in Korean but it sounds super weird in English to call your romantic partner Mr ‘Last Name’ since we tend not to use honorifics very much.

I wish they‘d just translate it with Kwon-ssi, since absolutely normal in korean or japanese, but sounds alien and strange in english or most other languages- I mean, they left the „Hyung“ and didn’t translate it with „brother“, so like, ┗( T﹏T )┛

Agreed! It doesn’t feel weird when they add the Korean or Japanese honorific. When they try to do a direct translation it into English honorifics it doesn’t really fit the tone/situation. Like hyung and oppa are fine when left untranslated but direct translating to brother is weird in English since it’s been removed from the context of the culture/language.

It’s so jarring in English because the only people I’ve ever called Mr/Ms ‘Last Name’ were my grade school teachers lol

Agreed! It‘s weird in most known European languages as well; The weirdest for me is when I start reading a really good, but unofficial translation where they leave the korean/japanese honorifics and meal names, and than it continues with the official translation and all of that is gone sksks
Like with „Ahjussi“ in Dangerous Conviencestore; I mean, it loses so much without the honorifics, nevermind all the memes calling him Ahjuicy sksks
