On further digging, it looks like temple scans (templetoons) has better translations but the scans look ai generated or scraped weirdly, while diva scans (divatoons) are the original but the translations have more pizzazz/freedom in translations interpretations. I can tell the difference in the overall texture, line drawing, and floral patterns.
Surprisingly enough, the official English license also has pretty bad quality scans

can you tell me more about this? how does scanning work? i thought they were just downloading the panels and reworking them with the translations, redraws etc. then putting them all together.
Yeahh honestly I assume that's what they do these days with webtoons. If they're not just re-uploading official translations, they have to download or screenshot from either official korean sites or from other unofficial sites, where the quality might have already declined being uploaded on other sites. A lot of official korean sites have a lot of rules if you want to download panels too
I would like to give the artist benefit of the doubt and question if the scanlators put it through AI to help with translations? (Not an excuse either) but if it IS the artist... then that's so disappointing
