People downvoted because they feel entitled and don't realise that people in the actual country of origin have to BUY these manga to read. They think stuff should be free and handed to them. ㄟ(ツ)ㄏ
As an author who serializes books for a price on an app, I can say this mentality extends beyond fan-translated manga.
I wouldn't have thought to look under "shared with me" for something that supposedly is a project of their own. Rather implies the opposite. Also would like to know why I couldn't find it by search. You really already have to know it is there, or be somebody who goes through every nook and cranny of every scanlation site to find it.
Says you who has easy access to manga for the price of an app. How many mangas do you think are even distributed in Denmark? Aside from I don't actually want to read my mangas in Danish, they're all (as far as I know) kid and shonen stuff. And they already cost about 9$ or are used, and it is a very small selection. So I can order from UK or US with shipping included. While the selection in the UK is better than DK, it still isn't as good as US, and cost in both case is usually above 11$ at a minimum. There are places like the Book Depository but they are usually out of those mangas that I want, or only have extremely expensive copies which defeats the purpose.
So blame the industry for not making it easier for people who don't live in the US or UK to be able to get affordable translations, and in many cases not even bothering to put a translation out there. For me what I end up paying for a manga that I read in a 1/2 hour is a bit much. I'm definitely not going to spend that kind of money unless I'm quite sure I'll want to reread it again and again, which means I will want to have read the whole story for free once before. I've seen too many good mangas that just never got wrapped up or were ruined by the ending.
I was actually going to bring up the fact that some people in certain countries don't have access, so I understand and sympathize from where you're coming from. But my argument wasn't "People should go buy manga," so I didn't think it was worth mentioning. My argument was that people think they're entitled to manga for free and easily accessible which is why they get angry with 1. Artists with official English translations stopping fan translations and 2. Fan translators asking people to not post outside their site or to wait a few days before reposting.
So, all great points you make, but not completely relevant to my argument. When I mentioned people in the country of origin buying, I meant they have no qualms about paying money which makes people who ignore scanlation groups requests to wait before or not repost their free scanlations even more pathetic.
I thought the translator clearly disabled download and save functions and told the readers not to reupload this to any free manga reading sites. Why are people still uploading them??
