    The premise of scanlating was by fans/for fans. They may ask for donations to buy the chapters, but outright requesting payment?
    Not really ethical because scanlators are not official distributors.

    Nope, they don't. But some add kofi tag so people can donate if they want to. And No, I don't consider Scanlators who paylock translation after a certain chapter as Ethical ones. They're literally profiting off the translation which every artist requested not to do.

    There was one scan group accepting commissions to scanlate mangas/manhwas
