Well the mask is for only to be incognito...but for this guy is late now bc his face is everywhere in the cover. So everyone know him already and it's disrespectful to do that

Couldn't he arrive at the signing event with a mask or a costume? Some authors/mangaka in Japan do that, after all...
I guess the point is to move forward and to go past his insecurities, and this might facilitate his fears, but I think it wouldn't be too odd or misplaced, especially if he wants his privacy and/or to have anonymity. Or maybe it'd be considered pointless/cause the opposite effect since people already saw his face before?
