Chapter 1 Cultural differences?

Do asian schools not teach people to swim? To be fair mc was pounding back the soju but I see the drowning trope all the time and I can't help but find it odd. A little treading and even a doggie paddle would have made this a very different story.

For one, this takes place in another world so it has nothing to do with Asian schools. Also, the kid doesn’t just drown, there’s a lot more to his death.

If mc was murdered in the original world that makes more sense. But I was making a more meta point that this just happened to be an example of. The authors of these stories are Asian and I see the drowning trope more than I thought I would. An american author for instance probably wouldn't go for it since teaching basic swimming is a thing. I know there are Japanese school life stories where the school has a pool but I don't know if that's a class thing or not.

I dunno. I just can't help but notice a lot of characters drowning in situations where a simple tread and doggie paddle could have kept them alive and happened to comment on this one.

I remember reading about rivers with really strong currents or something? But with so many characters ending up in life-threatening danger just from falling in water—without even trying to swim—you can’t help but wonder!

I was in China once, and went to the beach... everyone was in floaties, and no one went deeper than they could stand in. The folks I was with were shocked when I swam out... Seems to be part of the culture to not be able to swim. It's weird to me tbh
