It's based on the Cthulu Mythos so the fish monster is Dagon and the secretary Nia is Nyarlathotep. Not sure about Shan (Shantak?) but there are a ton of cats and shadowy monsters in those stories

No Shan is quite literally ‘The Shan’ they are a race of parasitic creatures who parasitise humans to reanimate them for intelligence. The cat was an ordinary cat and Yohan was jealous of it so he probably killed it and allowed on of ‘The Shan’ to inhabit it

thank you both for the explanation, this got me curious about the H.P. Lovecraft Cthulhu mythos! I’m honestly amazed how many details the authors included, wish I knew more so I could spot them. Idk how many lovecraftian horror MLs are out there, but this is cool + unique
