i think she became unable to do that after hearing that the CP was behind roger losing his home and people, and that duke arnold was behind losing his eye. she would be alone among people who desired to possess her and did not respect her wishes, despite promising to do so. i also highly doubt the CP would have just let her go as planned. he was willing to drug her and kill numerous people; no way he wouldn't have something planned.
