Actually, my fiancee is autistic and we recently had a very similar squabble. I tend to use and talk in slang- product of environment and being GenZ. While my fiancee pretty much only talks in correct English with the exceptions being if she's quoting something or making a joke of some kind. Well she started to try and teach me English rules (English has always been my favorite subject, we've established before that I know more in that area than she does) and I got a bit annoyed by that. I had to be like, "Look, I know what proper English is. I don't need you to correct my speech." And she countered with, "I know but it's like a physical need for me to say something about it." Which went into the talk of "Not trying to be a dick but I am autistic" which I think I forget sometimes. I have ADHD and she forgets that occasionally too, especially when I be racing through the house like a damn horse and getting on her nerves
