I find this to be the case with almost all of these toxic love stories. I got so annoyed. I mean I enjoy the chasing/groveling arc, but the endings always leave me bitter.
By now I just don't let myself get immersed anymore, but rather take a curious stance and wonder what kinds of acrobatics the author will do to "redeem" the ML and wrap up the story with a "happy end".
It's so ridiculous oftentimes that I find myself enjoying these stories again. Albeit not for what the author intended
