You definitely wouldn't be able to work in a corporate setting. Lol
The only situation, "directed" and "honest" communication is needed IS a meeting at work in a professional setting to go over proposals.
Give me an example from that meeting in that chapter that he said as being "rude", because the words I read sound reasonable to rebute the idea of putting English in the campaign. He didn't degrade/demean or even dismiss her idea of putting English in it, he simply stated facts of why he thought it wasn't a good idea. ML then even backed down on some of his points because the MC gave a rational rebuttal.
What he did was completely different than somebody being rude to a service worker because that is somebody providing you with service and you are not on the same playing level as them. They were in a meeting in a professional setting where they're expected to get honest and direct feedback/criticism in order to hash out ideas.

I'm just up to chap 52 but oml i cannot STAND it when people use being "direct" and "honest" as an excuse for being rude, it screams of constrained arrogance. And watching my bf make someone CRY and not say a single thing right next to me at work would be the biggest ick, i'd fall out of love right then and there. It's like watching them be rude to a service worker or not moving to make space for someone else on the pavement, like actually grow up, they better address this properly. This isn't a work-life balance issue, it's a personality issue (⊙…⊙ )
