I get that he wants her to suffer and I see the literary device of enjoined suffering by keeping her alive as a near constant reminder of his mother’s torture and death due to her naive mistakes, but I can’t for the life of me stop hearing Wesley say, “every night Roberts would say, “Good night, Wesley, good work, sleep well, at most I could kill you in the morning,”” from The Princess Bride and the grimness of the scene is diminished juuuussstt a bit more every time…
