I'm more of a TJ girl, no hate for Jo—I like him too, but it was always TJ for me… However, despite all that, I agree with what you said, especially the part where years of knowing someone mean nothing if it’s full of sad and hurtful memories. Even if TJ plans to change and live a normal life, that doesn’t erase the damage he caused to Ian. Again, I can’t see Jo fixing Ian. Maybe in the very long run, but not anytime soon
I am honestly confused about why people are rooting for TJ. I understand the complexity of their shared history, and honestly i’m a little captivated by their sexual chemistry. But isn’t TJ a DL? or well closeted. People are way too caught up in the romantic aspect that they’re missing the bigger picture. These are gay men. Ian is openly gay and is shunned for it. TJ is not. I don’t think a single character mentions or slightly alludes to TJ being homosexual or queer minus the one person who knew TJ since he was a kid. He’s publicly seen with women and the only man TJ sexually engages with is Ian. This issue is literally brought up by Ian himself. He doesn’t want to be some secret because his whole character is seriously about finding comfort for himself, where he feels secure, and accepted. This story is literally about his queer identity like am I fucking crazy.
exactly, a life with TJ would be a life of hiding his true identity, that's why even though i hated it, ian was clearly willing to hear TJ out if he would openly admit that he loves and wants to be with him when they met up in that bathroom but TJ couldn't do that and once again prioritised his ambitions. as much as they clearly do love eachother, being with TJ clearly means ian being second to TJ's dreams and ian has already sacrificed sm for TJ, asking more is just selfishness. atp im team anyone but TJ so ian can have some space to be himself lmao.
Yeah that bathroom scene really caught me off guard. Ian’s attempt to see if TJ loves him, in the way Ian loves him back. It was a hard pill to swallow, because you can see at that moment that Ian has strong affections for TJ, and that I’ll never understand the depth of that love towards TJ, but despite whatever he feels, he can still stand his ground. His values, beliefs, etc. he wouldn’t hide himself to satisfy an another man, like fuck yeah? but he just confessed he was lowkeyyyyy leading Jo on lolsies and it pmo, but that’s what makes Ian an interesting character cause he’s a realistically, complicated person. I’m kind of in love with how the author writes him, he’s cool yet irritating yet softhearted, but that’s what makes him appealing. Even though TJ and Ian have an interesting dynamic, I seriously do not want to see Ian with TJ.

I like how when it comes to TJ, it's all about that sense of familiarity Ian has with him. They have practically grown up together and have seen every side of each other. But considering their background, they don't exactly have the healthiest dynamic and upbringing. But they have been there for each other through the roughest. The life Ian had with TJ is the one he knows the most, but I understand him wanting to leave that and no longer associate with it.
Then you have Jo, whom Ian met more recently. Jo introduced a different kind of life to Ian, one that is a little more mundane compared to the usual reality Ian is accustomed to; but Jo offers a sense of security and safety. I understand Ian pushing him away at first since he didn't want to ruin that relatively normal life Jo has considering his past and even his present now since he's still connected to TJ etc.
So tbh I do see and understand Ian's feelings towards both leads but I really hope he ends up with Jo because he deserves better, even though TJ has technically known him longer, but I feel like this story is a good example to that one quote about years of knowing someone means nothing if it was all full of bad memories/experiences
