I already read the novel and find the chasing arc actually good and satisfying.
MC is not the usually bottom omega who magically falls in love with the alpha who abuses them. MC is not in love with ML at all. After all the abuse and bullshit, MC is depressed and genuinely wants to stay away from all these abusive ppl.
ML actually turns over a new leaf. He tries to take care of MC himself, endure pheromone pain himself rather than forcing MC to have sex. Best of all, he genuinely regrets all his word, his action that hurt MC before. Because of this, MC also opens his heart a little bit and tells MC stories about his family.
I love the vague ending. They still choose to stay together but its not like MC can accept ML's love easily. What ML did to MC is far over the line and MC feels guilty to his family if he accepts his love. But ML just ensures MC to keep that feeling, no need to overthink. All ML asks for is that MC stays with ML, just that is enough. ML accepts that as his punishment for all his past sins. BTW, they have to depend on each other so staying together is the best choice at this point. ML needs MC for survival, MC stays with ML for his love, his attention after MC lost his precious family
