I think it’s interesting the pitying tone you have for misogynistic abuser while speaking of alicia like that. Like i acc don’t feel bad for him at all as opposed to Alicia. And to say you do not hate him enough to want him dead when he treated both women in that way is wilddd like wow, this hatred of women is a real problem in the manhwa community
I’m not sure how my comment translates to misogyny. I never defended what Zeppelin did to the women in the story... I only said I pity the fact that he was manipulated and abused as a child. A character can be both a victim of abuse and still responsible for the harm they cause later—those things aren’t mutually exclusive.
If you read my comment carefully, I clearly said he should suffer the consequences and be punished for what he did. I want him to feel the pain he inflicted on others. I just personally don’t think he deserves to die. At least based on what has been shown and hinted to us.
Death penalty should be reserved for people who commit acts so horrendous that the harm of them continuing to live outweighs anything else. That’s just how I see it.
I never said he shouldn’t face consequences. In fact, he absolutely should suffer for what he’s done! I’d rather see him stripped of his title and power and be either imprisoned or forced to live the rest of his life in exile as a humble commoner.
For someone like him, losing everything would already be a huge punishment. He’s completely reliant on his family’s legacy, wealth, and power....things he clearly doesn’t deserve and didn’t earn himself
He’s definitely the bad guy, just not pure irredeemable evil, at least with what we know. To me he reads more like a deeply delusional man-child who finally needs to face the consequences of his own actions.
I can see your point here. And it's true that especially for a noble death is preferable to humiliation. And he does need to face the consequences, but to what end? Do you think he will repent? What would that even look like? It's not like this is a Christian manga where we are trying to guide him to the path of salvation or anything.
But it's the "pure irredeemable evil" part that seems like you're on too much about. I think your assessment of being a manipulated manchild is correct, but that and bring evil aren't mutually exclusive. Most people aren't pure irredeemably evil. They ended up as monsters because of their circumstance. But that doesn't change the fact they became monsters, and you have to put down monsters.
Honestly I'm glad you posted the OP. While the origin is a bit of slop (an online cartoon) I think it does speak to the confused nature of how most modern people and societies approach justice and now we got to have this conversation in the least likely place.
The misogyny comes from you having pity about his background and how he grew up but not Alicia. Like you give him a full fleshed out commentary and then say that about Alicia. You likened her to anyone’s character who was a literal slave that did fucked up shit because she did not want to return to that point (honestly the whole plot of remarried empress sucks and the portrayal of poor women was weird asf). It is very clear the way women are treated and valued in this society and i think that the original comment you made should have just stuck w Zeppelin. The tone in which you address both of them is soo different and that’s what’s getting me
Okay, I think there’s been a misunderstanding of my comment. The reason I wrote more about Zeppelin is because I was addressing his situation specifically, since Rebecca said she plans to have him killed.
The brief comment about Alicia wasn’t meant to dismiss her background or struggles. I only mentioned that she was starting to get on my nerves as a character. It wasn’t meant to compare her situation to his or imply that her circumstances matter less.
My point was only about Zeppelin’s actions and whether he deserves death as punishment, not about judging male and female characters differently. That’s also why I didn’t elaborate on Alicia, the butler, or Zeppelin’s mother.
Honestly it really depends on the author, but my point was never really about whether he deserves death or not — more about whether it actually feels truly earned or deserved.
And yeah, you're right that being a product of circumstances doesn't stop someone from becoming a monster. But with characters like him there's always that question lingering....is there really nothing redeemable there, or could he actually change if he was truly forced to face his consequences?
"Villainess Turns the Hourglass" did this so well imo. The death sentence hit because the stepsister got a real chance and still proved she's just irredeemable. Watching her fail made it feel deserved. If Zeppelin ends up the same way — if he proves he can't stop hurting people even after losing everything — then yeah, that's when death starts feeling actually justified to me.
But we're at chapter 43. That moment hasn't come yet. Death is permanent and when it happens before it's really earned it just falls flat. And he's clearly too important to the plot to be dealt with that cheaply.
His character could still go a lot of directions from here, he might get genuinely worse or he might get even more complex. Nothing's set in stone. This is just my read based on what we know so far.

Although many might not agree, I actually don't hate Zeppelin enough to want him dead....Of course I don't like him and he should get severely punished, yet, I pity him, like a lot. It looks like he was consistently manipulated and coerced by that nasty butler and his own mother enabled that sick man to do this to her child, it's disgusting. It's true that now as an adult, he's fully responsible for his misdeeds, I'm not trying to defend him. I just don't think he deserves to die.... honestly, person I want to see suffer the most is that butler, I mean, who knows what else did that snake of a man caused.....oh, and that Trashta wannabe is also starting to get on my nerves. I get she wanted to escape life in poverty but that doesn't justify acting like a backstabbing, disrespectful brat.
