Have y’all seen this one very very small creator on TikTok basically posting about how if you want feminine characters in BL you should just read MLW and like they just hate feminine bottoms because they act/look too much like a women and like that it isn’t really BL if the character looks too feminine…. Anyways they just want both the Top and Bottom to look masculine without any feminine features because in their words “ Men are meant to act like men in BLs” I honestly think thats like a crazy take because what…. Like you don’t have to like or read certain stories if you don’t like them but that doesn’t really give you the right to just bash on the art/story/genre like they mentioned that they hate omegaverse because it defeats the whole purpose of BL and that it’s just a fetish. I think it’s rage bait because thats the majority of their posts but if it isn’t then welp crazy take…

To be fair, 70% of bottoms look feminine and 90% act feminine

and there’s nothing wrong with that. the point is that imposing heteronormative expectations/dynamics on femininity can be harmful

Sure but I personally think that doesn’t mean you should bash on the art/story/ genre and dedicate your entire page to it. As well as saying that having those features in BL make it not BL.

If anything bl authors are imposing the opposite of that. Why is imposing masculine males bad while imposing feminine males good? Is it so wrong to just be an average male these days?

Let's be real that's most likely an attention seeking minor. Just scroll past instead of getting ragebaited this hard by it.

I wouldn’t say I’m “ragebaited this hard by it” I’m not interacting with the post or their content I just thought it was a crazy take and I wanted to share my opinion.

Isn't that lwk weird to think that men have to act/look/ think a specific way..? Like most people are not naturally buff, so isn't that a weird way of thinking realistically?? If you think a man has to be buff or strong or big then mf you are no better than people who want feminine men. Both are extremes on the spectrum of body types and its more likely for someone to just have a normal fucking weight without abs or the such... Or like be slightly chubby with normal body shapes.... Like be so fr </3 All this argument does is enforce that some ppl wanna enforce patriarchy so bad can we look past their looks when all that matters is their personality anyways... I mean unless ur just reading smtg smutty but there's multiple works with different types of structures and character designs this world is not made for you sweetie just read what you like and move on (for the self centered pplz out there who wanna complain ab seeing smtg (not morally wrong) that they don't like)

People are mad that a man acts like what is considered how a 'woman' acts... Do you think women wanna be seen as submissive and incapable of making decisions like some of these characters in bls? These characters are the result of bad writing, or when the writer doesn't know what to emphasize and end up taking the easy route out by using a popular old stereotype. It REALLY fucking sucks that the entire genre is summed up like that sometimes and some really good works with in depth characters get thrown out the window bcuz they look a specific way (Whether that be buff/'feminine' men)...

but imo it depends on what manhwa it is?
Like if its about a guy who likes cute things and feminine things because the story wants to portray a guy from that lense (bcuz they do exist) there's nothing wrong with that.. Nor is it wrong to have cute guys, etc. as long as they don't act like a doormat incapable of making their own decisions with their looks being pointed out, because that is associating feminine traits with submissiveness... If someone is cute and it isn't associated with their role in the story, unless for lighthearted jokes that are sometimes made, then there is no problem, amiright??

Just because they're not submissive doesn't mean they don't act feminine. A lot of mcs that play hard to get or stand up for themselves in bls these days do so in such a female gaze way (sorry I don't know how to word this better).

Omg can we as queer people stop acting like there has to be a masc and a fem in the relationship??? Why are you acting like straight ppl?? Obv it’s fine if there’s a fem one but when an author only draws bls with one fem and one masc it’s weird and annoying (this is especially weird in lesbian communities where butch girls get treated like men)

Personally I don’t care like I’ll fuck up anything up as long as the art and plot is good. (Also if it’s recommended to me/ catches my eye) I just don’t think anyone should bash someone’s work and make it their whole personality yk? But I agree it can become weird and annoying when they try only making one of one. ( also agree with your comment with the lesbian community)

It always kills me when I see that take as a man who has feminine features like guys it’s not js fantasy. Twinks are real

I just came across the video which I was surprised since I don’t really interact with the BL community on there. I kind of got their point but the way they decided to go about it was kind of misogynistic. I understand that omega verse and a lot of masculine x feminine pairings as well as the omega verse can be really heteronormative, but that could also be applied to two masculine men like even if the bottom isn’t feminine, they always try to make him submissive and the more dominant one is more masculine and is always portrayed to be “ a real man” so you can still see heteronormative dynamics. Passion is a pretty good example of this which they ended up showing in their slideshow. I think that they were just being misogynistic because there is absolutely nothing wrong with femininity or feminine men. They very much exist and that doesn’t make them any less of a man.
