South Korea doesn't legally recognise same gender marriages, hence the only way to become a family when it comes to the government is through adoption. Historically, what same gender couples have done is for the older to adopt the younger into their family so legally they are considered one. It is a "loophole" in the system.
In Korea marrying ppl of the same sex it’s still not legal. So the only way as of now to become a family (in paper) it’s by ‘adopting’ your partner. That way you can also have legal rights over health issues among other rights for example. (visiting and taking care of them while they are in the hospital, access to information about their condition, buying property under their name, etc)
Don't think of it technically like that. For countries that do not legalize gay marriage adoption is the only way for the adults to be considered as one family. For times like hospital records and other governmental necessities.
In this instance, Haebom "adopted" Ho, and by proxy, Sol. This way, if anything happens to Ho, Sol will immediately go with Haebom as the next closest relative.
Legally yes. How is he supposed to adopt Sol if that kid doesn't even have proper name yet lol. If he adopt sol, Kwon surname will only be attached to Sol not Haebom. He wants him and Haebom to have same surname - to be a family. Registering Sol then will be easier because Sol will adopt Kwon surname from Haebom since she's Haebom's kid. I believe that kid has proper paperwork from US. So she is still legally Haebom's kid.

Can someone explain the adoption papers to me cuz I don't really understand did haebom adopt ho or something jk hahahaha
