I don’t think they excused pedophilia they just meant the relationship will focus on shinwi and him and yes ray groomed his from an earlier age doesn’t seem the mc seems to understand that’s really disgusting
In no way or form am i excusing pedophilia. I’m just saying that clearly the main couple will be between Ban and Shinwi and Ray is there for Bans backstory if thats the proper way to name it. My main point is that people should give it a chance instead of immediately judging because of a side character. If the relationship between Ban and Ray continues far along in the story then I will obviously be dropping this book but for now i have hope that the author will use it as a way to develop Bans character and see him realize that he is being groomed. Exactly i would never try to excuse pedophilia, it’s one of the most vilest acts a human can do. I kinda agree with you but some people (like me) get triggered by pedophilia so we absolutely will dip at the first chance we see it. It’s hard to read or watch that to begin with and if it’s important enough to be a “backstory” as you put it then it’s likely to show up as a memory or a plot point. Ofc, if you can stomach it and give it a chance, that’s amazing and awesome and you can let people know if it continues on for an extended period of time or if it’s just for let’s say 20 chapters. I just don’t think we should be judging people for their tolerances to clearly triggering topics. Had it been something like alcohol being present or they just didn’t like the vibes of a character, I’d have completely agreed with you. I just think people need to put their own mental health first over any piece of media. That’s not a shameful thing to do.
It's the matter of triggering, for me there are many things I can let slide in fiction, but pedo implication content and sexualizing this topic is definitely a big no for me, as it was mentioned in the other comment here, if this trop is essential for the plot, it could have been just hinted and their intercourse not sexualized, because that was the problem for me (many times such topics like rape, SA, pedo are used to give more smut in series, showed more in sexualized way than as an abuse), and just guessing, not like it was not alarming earlier, but maybe it's alarming to more people lately also due to Epstein files release...
For me there are topics which just should be handled correctly even when in fiction, that's all, maybe I will come back to this series later, probably only if this Ray part is not dragged and handled correctly, because for now it's just a strict 'no' area for me
