The story is simple yet heart achingly beautiful. Sure there are classic tropes thrown in there like misunderstanding, but god it just works so well like the mc misunderstanding what the love interest meant in having a family. It may seem like a simple issue but if you add in the heteronomativity of jp society you'd get why the problem became that overblown. Idk, it's just portrayed so realistically.
