Question

I’ve been reading a few comments that some Americans may not really understand the concept of concubines and we automatically associate it with cheating, which at first my mind did go there, but re reading, it kinda comes off as for sure, the concubines are there for political affiliations but a question arises in me, Tei technically was also given to shuraka for a political alliance, but was he the first one offered, making him the first person shuraka became attached to or what sets him apart from the other concubines he received? Obviously I have to recognize the fact that obviously the author already has tei as the mc and that we are barely in the early stages of the story but do y’all think smth similar? Or am I reading too much into this story at the early stages? pls lmk what y’all think, I’m intrigued

This is a great point and I hope people read it and can empathize more with what Tei is feeling

I am understanding your point, an would like to also know the answers but we really are still at the very beginning of the plot, i guess we'll see further in the story..

though watching the popular Turkish series, i am understanding the plot a little better and am hoping for their misunderstandings to be cleared by shuraka by being honest and open because he trust tei, and tei's feelings of helplessness and insecurity removed/healed..

This is just a guess, but many times concubines are inherited from successor to successor in some cultures. With the concubines largely being older and the author mentioning this age gap so blatantly, it makes me wonder if this wasn’t the case. Tei’s misunderstanding is reasonable, of course, and there’s the possibility that some were also taken for political gain etc. But I am curious if the ladder isn’t more likely than the former.

so true, political marriages are no rare case, and if it gives shuraka the advantage, he would willingly do so because he is looking at his main goal of suceeding the throne just so he can get tei back..

and let's note that being shuraka's concubine doesn't mean that he will sleep with them (being forced by the throne or something)..
